Day 2

8.30 am – Depart for a community walk in the Rwenzori Foothills. This lasts around an hour and takes you through banana and coffee plantations, across a river and to the town of Kagando. The local guide will explain how people live, grow their crops etc. On arrival at Kagando there is a visit to the tomb of three Bakonzo fighters.

11.15 am – Pop in to Simba to pick up a packed lunch before driving to Mweya Boat Launch for a 2 hour cruise along the Kazinga Channel which runs between Lake George and Lake Edward. The Channel is a favourite watering spot for elephants and buffalos. You can also see crocodiles and hippos plus a large variety of bird life.

Although not a game drive as such, on the way to the boat launch you may see elephants and, if you’re very lucky, a leopard.

3.30 pm – Depart Mweya for the Explosion Crater Drive. This part of the park is famous for its spectacular landscape created by past volcanic activity. This 27 km drive takes you high above the park with spectacular views across the plains and, of course, of the many craters themselves, some of which exceed 1km in diameter. There will be many photo opportunities on this part of the trip.
